Because I do love my Niece very much, she's asked me to read...."it".  I've sworn it off for so long, but she's asked me to read it, in order for me to watch the movie with her.  I've rolled my eyes, I've said "tut-tut", but I am starting to see more of me in her.  Sure, she's not related to me by blood, but related to me by my husband's sister and I've known her since she was 3 when I met her as princess Briana when I was just dating Dean and meeting his family for the first time at our Medieval Fair.

Her mother smiles whenever her eyes light up when she obsesses about Twilight and she was torn to pieces to find out that she couldn't go to the Twilight Convention in Miami this weekend. I know, first and foremost, that Cons are so much fun (and if I ever went to Dragon Con, my head would EXPLODE with all the awesome nerdiness) and who am I to deny someone that is that passionate about it?

I'm about a third into the book and it's okay.  I'm not torn over it, but I am waiting for her to see Edward again, just for sheer curiousity now that she's discovering what he is.  It's from Bella's point of view and its an easy read, much like Harry Potter.  I see the appeal of the fandom, only because I've often looked at myself in my HP fandom whirl from an outside eye to see what we all look like (ie. watching yourself describe how quidditch is played on a Borders Bookstore website that is still UP after 3 years and having people comment about it., or watching that news piece on San Francisco with Azkatraz and seeing my sister [info]tatiana422 cutting it up on the dancefloor while holding her rum/coke concotion in her Infinitus waterbottle).

I'll let you know my progress as I go...if it's worthy enough to type.
4th-Jan-2010 03:49 pm - Wish List for 2010
I am working on learning some new tricks for 2010. If anyone knows where I can find reasonable pricing for training in Atlanta in the following. Before the end of 2010 I want to learn how to sew, braid hair, shoot and ride a horse. Sounds crazy right. Oh well I'm going to try anyway. If anyone has any ideas hit me up.
5th-Jan-2010 12:17 am - Christmas Eve Part II
In the morning of Christmas Eve, back when I was still single, I convinced Sis and M to go hermit crab shopping with me. My nephew has asked for a live medium crab for Christmas, and I was determined to fulfill his wish.

We called around until we found a pet store that stocked them. When we arrived, we found a ton of large crabs! The problem was that we wanted 2 small ones. We settled on a small and a medium, and a big cartful of crabitat and crab supplies. Upon taking it home, we set it all up and installed the crabs inside. They looked great! In retrospect though, I find myself wondering why on earth we took no pictures?!

Then we had lunch, then M and I went for our momentous walk detailed in Part I. Upon returning, we gathered my family and told them the good news. Then it was time to go to church -- my niece and nephew were in the Christmas pageant! Tilly was a goat, and Will was a cherub.

Before the service, I told my Bro, his wife, and their daughter Tilly. They were all pleased, although distracted by the imminent event.

After church, when we got back to Mom and Dad's house, M and I ducked into the back room so that he could call his mother with the good news. A few minutes later, Will came in, his eyes huge.

"Auntie Lynn told me to ask you what that thing on the kitchen table is!" (The table contains a nicely filled and decorated crabitat, with two crabs, and a jaunty bow on top.)

I smiled and told him I'd be just one minute. Once I'd given my best to his mum, and he seemed to have the conversation well in hand, I left the room. Will stood just outside, near explosion.

I've never quite seen a child vibrate so desperately. He was desperate to know what was on the kitchen table, but he'd been told quite firmly I had to tell him. Thus he was being polite and waiting, even while straining against this with every fiber of his being. The little boy was bouncing up and down, twisting his hands, struggling to stay in one place and wait patiently.

"Okay, I have two things to tell you," I said to him.

"Uh-huh, uh-huh," he agreed incoherently, vibrating.

"First, is that M and I went on a walk today, and he asked me to marry him. So we're going to have a wedding, and he's going to be your real uncle! Isn't that great? See, here's the ring. Isn't it pretty?" "Uh-huh, uh-huh," he agreed. He tried to look, and he tried to agree, poor thing. I felt bad making him wait, but I also would have felt bad not telling him, when everyone else already knew.

Finally, the treat came. I started walking to the kitchen. "And the other thing to tell you is that M and I have a special present for you this year. It's two hermit crabs!"

He bounced beside me like a puppy. "Really? No way! I can't believe I got a live animal for Christmas!" He was thrilled, and spent the next half hour absorbed in the crabs - even with the mound of unopened presents around the tree in the next room.

Later that night my bro texted me from home. "Will got out of bed to say good night to the crabs. 'Goodnight crabs... I love you!'" Awwwww.... I think I hit on a good gift!

M and I spend that night in a motel, since space is at a premium in my parents' tiny Chicago apartment. It was midnight on Christmas eve, and we wanted to share our good news with our friends. "We need to update our facebook statuses!" Unfortunately it was $10 for internet in the room.

"There's a business center," M pointed out. "I bet it's empty right now."

"Good idea." We were both in our jammies, but so what? It was midnight. We took the elevator down to the second floor, and wandered down the hall. We had my phone, his camera, a cable, two room cards, and pajamas. What more do you need?

We padded our way into the business center, and were pleased to find it dark and empty. We curled up in the comfy executive chairs and logged into two computers sitting next to one another. I tried plugging the camera into the computer's USB port, and was pleased to discover it let me do that no problem.

With a little bit of tweaking, I got it to allow me to upload the camera's photos onto Facebook - but I waited to publish them. Then he typed up a status update. "Wait wait, don't click it until I have mine ready!" We didn't want any friend to be hurt from finding out from one of us before the other.

I typed up an update too, and then did the countdown: "Three, two, one, click!" We giggled like children at how geeky we were being.

Then I posted the photos. Then he reminded me, "We have to change our relationship status too!"

"Oh right, definitely." But it was hard to find the right place. Eventually we found the correct radio button. then we both clicked the "Save" button simultaneously once again, on my 3-2-1 count.

At that point, we just sat back in our leather chairs and let the congratulations pour in. People were clicking "like", they were commenting with happy remarks, then were responding to our photos, our status change.... it was so fun! It was kind of like watching the results on election night.

"What on earth is wrong with our friends," we had to ask, "that they are all on Facebook at midnight on Christmas Eve?" But maybe it was all that was right with our friends, and they sensed there was something important to be seen on the internet on that starry silent night.

At any rate we had fun taking a few more pictures, and exchanging messages and texts with some of our friends. Eventually we called it a night - we could wait for tomorrow to collect the rest of our accolades. We padded our way back to our hotel room, curled up in bed, and spent our very first night as fiancés. Not a bad Christmas Eve, all told!

I love three day weekends. If only I had them every weekend... I actually felt fully relaxed come Sunday night, rather than anxious and dreadful of the looming work-week ahead. It was the perfect amount of time to decompress.

It probably helped that I did some fun things on Friday and Saturday then chilled out on Sunday. A perfect sequence, as far as I am concerned.

Had family over on Friday for New Year's dinner, which included a very frustrating argument with my bratty 8-year-old cousin on why he does not get to do whatever he wants at my house and why, if he throws the Wii controller at me again, I would kick his punky ass. I usually adore children, but this kid is such a brat that I just want to beat him with a wooden spoon. It is totally his parents' fault, so I want to beat them with a wooden spoon too. Overall, it was a fun time.

Saturday was movie day - went to see "It's Complicated", which was absolutely hilarious. I was in a fun comedy mood after that, so I rented "The Hangover", which was also hilarious.

This morning, I hit the gym at 5:30 am just because I know that it will be packed in the evenings after work and I don't need any additional excuses for not going. It was less miserable than I expected, so that is good. If I can get there every morning this week, I will be set in the pattern and all will be golden.
Well, last night we officially kicked off the first meeting for myself and my 2 other Black sisters as we coordinated the "House of Black Productions". We will be directing/performing the Live! Human Combat Wizard Chessmatch (more details to follow), and have worked with our potential "dream team" of cast members compiled of those that we've personally spoken to along with our con family that we intend on slotting in on some squares of the show (more details to my girls & boys - you know who you are - later on that) to the question if Chris Rankin will agree to be on the chessboard like he said he would while standing outside with him countless times in San Francisco smoking and chatting. He liked the idea, we'll see if he is game on that one. We also wanted to talk to Steve Vander Ark to see if he'd be interested in some gags as well.

The HOUSE OF BLACK PRODUCTIONS will be what we're working under (love the name, thank you Narcissa for your brilliant mind) and we're working on 2 potential fanfilms to premiere there as well. I want to be so involved in the fandom this year, because I know this is the last one for a couple of years (Jenn, this better not be the last!) and the buzz is really kickin for it. I really home HPEF does well this year so they can already get started on..what..2012? I'm very excited to see my con friends/family, as its been too long. I still owe my Chicago girls a trip, and I might do that sometime this month. We'll see.

For now, I sit and think....

I join a software consulting company, Xede, and am placed at my first client: Polk. I stay there 5 days, then am pulled off that job and asked by my employer to work at a different client. That falls through, and I find myself on the bench.

M and I go skiing in Northern MI, and I wear my new Christmas ski outfit. I get new stripes put into my hair. I have a bad night which involves an ice dam, water raining into my computer room, and a surreal visit from the police due to flashlights seen outside my front door (but everything turns out fine).

I go to ConFusion for half the weekend, then head to the airport to meet M for a vacation in Vail. I catch a cold, and my knee hurts, but I have an awesome vacation anyway.

....actually I have no idea if these comment numbers are correct. I seem to have screwed up my accounting. I calculate these numbers manually every year by taking the total comments (provided by lj) and subtracting last year's total from them. However on my post from last year and the post from the year before, the totals were the same. This means I copied without changing the numbers, so honestly I have no idea if the last two yearly subtotals are right!

Anyway, the journal entries do balance, so those are right even if the comment numbers are off. Clearly I have dropped drastically in my posting last year. I think it's the result of a number of things: my chaotic job situation, my spending a lot of my free time time with M, the fact that I don't do any personal web surfing at work anymore, and my use of Facebook for short life-commentaries.

I would like to start posting more in the upcoming year though, because my journal has been a pleasure to reread in later years, and a handy way to remember what was going on in my life and head on a given time-period.
2nd-Jan-2010 08:18 am - It's freezing!
My goodness, Paradise my ass!  It's fricken cold out there today.  I woke up to shivering on the bed, and it wasn't even me!  My little Munch was shivering to death, so of course I grab him and pull him under the covers with me to warm up. He was incredibly greatful.

Going into work late today at 9am.  I really have learned to hate working midday because all the SHIT goes down at work.  Flights delayed, cancelled, weather delays, etc... and nothing to put them on.  I'm in baggage services today (whoopee) so that means all that and crankier people because their luggage didn't travel with them.

Here's to a great new year, I'm already over it.

On another note, I've started playing SIMS2 again. Wow, I forgot (briefly) how addictive it is. Of course, I've not played once without cheating (well, maybe once for 10 minutes, but then I got bored), because having an unlimited about of funds is important. Now, I'm just moving them around, I am making them work and educating them so that they're happy, but I'd be lying if I wasn't using cheating things to up their attitudes or keep them at "ADULT" rather than allowing them to age normally. Of course, their kids are and that's a little weird, but oh well - it's my game.

Getting excited, because we're having our first meeting for the Live! Human Wizard Chessmatch for the possible auditionees. We've decided NOT to take a full chessboard of 32 people, as the scheduling would be insane. We're going to take the most committed to the show (those that have worked with us for the Medieval Fair and have made rehearsals work and have limited conflicts) to cast as major characters to fight (sword, wand, hand-to-hand, stunt work, etc...) in the chessmatch as the moves are called (most likely by Voldemort and Harry) and then the big MELEE fight where the entire chessboard will be fighting at once. We're taking at least 16 - 20 and filling the rest of the squares on the board with con friends. Granted, we might have their normal cosplay characters cast (for this show only) and might ask them to be random Death Eaters or Order members to step in and hold off people while the rest of the show continues. It'll be good to involve our con friends, maybe get a celebrity on the board or even Steve VanderArk involved, but a lot of it is still in the planning. I am truly treating this like my baby, because I've been thinking of doing something like this since LUMOS - after I saw cosplayers do a performance. I'm so glad that it finally presented itself to do.
1st-Jan-2010 09:50 pm - Happy New Year
Hope everyone had an enjoyable New Year's Eve and best wishes for 2010.

I was not feeling well yesterday - a little dizzy, stuffy and I could not seem to perk up, think it was allergy/sinus issues - so I took off from work two hours early to come home and take a nap. I was supposed to go to a friends house for the evening, but I woke from my nap feeling worse than I did before. So, my NYE was spent laying in bed, playing on Facebook, and watching Twilight for the 50th time. It was quite a relaxing evening, actually. And I woke up in the morning feeling much better.

Today, I decided to start 2010 out right so I bought myself a New Years gift with some of my Christmas money. I picked up Band Hero for the Wii and spent the evening rocking out on the drums and guitar. I've never played any of the Guitar Hero games before so I had no idea what to expect. Band Hero was a lot of fun, even for someone like myself who is not rhythmically inclined ;-)

Tomorrow, my grandma, mom, aunt, sister and myself are going to have a ladies day at the movies to see It's Complicated. I heard it was really funny and I just love Meryl Streep.
1st-Jan-2010 07:52 pm(no subject)
So, it's the first day of then New Year and there are some things I'm glad to be over with and eager to move forward with.

Things I'm sad I didn't accomplish in 2009:

~Go back to school and finish 1 of the 3 degrees I've started and so close to getting the end of.
~Get pregnant (though, I only had a selfish 2 month window in order to get things done next year)
~Have house finished (painted, furniture moved in/renewed, workshop for Dean in garage, backyard makeover)
~Get to my ideal happy weight (I joined a gym 6 weeks ago and it's a slow process)

Things to do this year (other than the above):
~Wizarding World of Harry Potter
~Infinitus
~Take some finishing classes for my started degrees
~Get grants/scholorships for school
~Rescue another cute little dog
~Travel to at least 3 countries this year
...working list

As per suggestion of our dear [info]utsi , we have created a community for friends to gather in and support each other with health and fitness goals, relationships, what-have-you.  As [info]siriusly_lupine called it, a brag-or-bitch session.  Share ideas, voice concerns... it's a chat over a cup of tea.

Several of you have posted in comments that you'd like this sort of thing.  If you're interested in joining, just pop by.  As the New Year begins, so does a new chapter.  Let's help each other out, kick each others' arses and hold each other to staying on course.

There seemed to be a maturity and hardness around her face making her pale face look like granite.
She smirked when she saw the surprise on his face and tapped her heel. “Done looking Snape?” she said in a disobedient voice and smirked again. He was surprised how much her smirk was like his. He figured this must be a prostitute or a scamp.

Well, I was 'fired' today for being a lousy secretary. My response was to ask what did they expect when they asked a technical person to answer phones, of course I'm not good at it! So, back to my regular duties.

Have to take my dog, Lucky, to get a haircut during my lunch break today. Poor guy is really shaggy, and dirty from rolling around in the snow two weekends ago. He will look so handsome once he is clean and trimmed. I love the way he smells after a bath.
